Pine Hyacinth (Clematis baldwinii ) by

A vine which loves the shade. Grows wild among the vegetation along the edges of creeks and ponds. Flowers are usually violet-blue but I have seen a single white flower. This photo was taken in Bayou George, FL along the banks of Bear Creek. Northwest Florida.

Also called Pine-woods clematis, and leather vine, leather flower.

Flowers all year but only occasionally in winter unless it is mild in this zone (9). Sandy, flat pine woods; 0-50 m; Florida.
