My Florida fungi expert wasn’t quite sure what this was, but he felt it had been attacked by a fungus.
Whatever it was – it recalled all those old 40s movies where zombies rose from the grave..

haha…i remember all those old late 60’s and 70’s zombie movies…lolI have to agree with u’r expert? it does resemble a ‘fungi attack’……..often I find local varieties that have this look….one of the culinary fav’s is the Lobster Mushroom which is actually a parasitic fungi ON a mushroom……..and it likes several varieties so one has to be careful when they decide to ‘try’ it
