I was stalking damselflies when I lifted my gaze and saw THIS newly emerged tiger swallowtail looking like a spot of sunshine on a wild blueberry branch overhanging the creek.

I had a hiking staff with me (it’s snake season), and by steps got closer. It left three times to return to the same spot. Lucky for me! I didn’t even get stung by fire ants on my bare feet.

Thank you all! I rescued another newly emerged Tiger Swallowtail yesterday morning. They lay eggs in oak trees, and we have oaks all over the place. So I’m thinking that this one from yesterday, had emerged in the last two hours in the cold morning, and fell out of its tree into my Four o’Clock bed. So I picked it up and “hung” it onthe bark of another oak tree so it could warm and fly. And it did! Got an even better, closer photo, spread. That Florida sunshine is good for every ill!

Beautiful swallowtail capture Mary. I would never go out barefoot in Florida, you are a hardy breed!
