One day these poems

One day
These poems will ring out like church bells
Gathering everyone around for the stories I want to tell
And it won’t matter
If they say his words were a Sunday
Yet they felt much sadder
Preaching to all things he wasn’t strong enough to follow
Himself like a pastor
Once you put these hopes into quotes
My voice will have rung out like a ladder
And they will be followed into the depths
Like deep breaths after disaster
Sometimes we put faith in those words don’t we?
The ones we need, but can’t seem
To follow
The fear I fear is just getting to swallow
The promise that I’ll be a stronger person tomorrow
And then I’ll show everyone I know
That there’s still a reason to have dreams
And say no one can take them from me
If I just believe…

Yeah
That’s what I’ll do
Leave these two line fantasies on how opposites spark beauty
And how a lifetime later all her kisses are still new to me
Something about dying and how money is not a curse
If we just knew what every day was worth
Living every one like it’s our last
And something about braving our past
Never forgetting to laugh…
And making our own paths…

I wonder if they’ll see the beauty
Or question if it was all really true to me
If they can still love the heart that was just a Saturday
And defend it against the greats
Saying there was an air of divinity in his poetry
And for that he deserves his place
Because one day these poems will ring out like church bells
But I’ll long be on my way
Followed like a religion from beyond those pearly gates

And it won’t matter if they say ‘his words were a Sunday’
But his heart felt much sadder
Because once they put these hopes into quotes
I will be defended from death
Like drugs against cancer
Followed into the depths
Like deep breaths after disaster

It was never about becoming your truth
But getting you to question my answers

    Beautifully written!
The fear I fear is just getting to swallow
The promise that I’ll be a stronger person tomorrow
And then I’ll show everyone I know
That there’s still a reason to have dreams
And say no one can take them from me
    If I just believe…

Superb write Shoaib! For me, out of all of your fantastic writes, this is one of your most deep reflective poems. There are so many fantastic lines in this one I can’t even begin to pick them out, I might just have to highlight it all. Every stanza was packed with heart and soul and lines that lept from the page. Perfect job Shoaib. This is the kind of poem that makes me want to go write! What an inspiration my friend!

Wow! This piece gripped me from the first expression and didn’t loosen up. I’d point out the areas that touched and impressed me most, but I’d be almost reposting the whole piece. I especially love that you’ve invited me into your soul and allowed me to look out upon the landscape of life through your bell tower. Beautiful journey, xox
