I have around 3 shots from Catherine Hill Bay that i will post up in coming weeks, just to space them out a little bit. This is the first of the series. I like this one for the little wave cruising across the rock ledge. The morning had that lingering light, everything felt as though it was happening in slow motion. Love mornings like that, super relaxing. I had the pleasure of spending this morning with fellow Bubblers Warren Patten and Julie White . It was great to meet you guys and share this shoot. Look forward to doing it again. Cheers

There is a plan to demolish the old girl by the Lake Coal group. Efforts to stop this from happening have been unsuccessful so far. An estimated $100,000 is required for maintenance on the jetty each year, so the local government has obviously supported the move to tear it down. Just another historical landmark that goes by the way in order to save money.

If this is on your list for locations, better do it soon, who knows if it will be around by the time you get around to it.

Hope you like this one.

Many thanks for all your comments, they are greatly appreciated :-)

Awesome capture matey of Catho… I’m with you, don’t tear it down… I remember as a kid going to the beach there in summer when staying at my grandma’s holiday house at Summerland Point.. Just one of those happy childhood memories…

  • I know what you mean Sharon. For me it was the old Jetty in Nelson Bay. We grew up about 300m from it and spent so much time on it as kids – cousins, friends ….. all of us. They have since torn that down and replaced it with an ugly marina. It would be a shame to see this one go as well. Hopefully it won’t, you never know. Thanks for your comment, glad you like it :-)

Stunnning image Maxwell. For me the cloud at the end of the pier has a real sense of foreboding. Love it

  • Many thanks for your great comment Steve. That cloud really made this shot, and it only rolled across about 15 minutes before sunrise. Up till then the sky was completely cloudless :-)

A great pano format, wonderful, almost eeire lighting and superb timing, Maxwell !!! It’s a shame to tear it down, so sad to have a part of history and a landmark go, because of the ‘almighty dollar’, instead of investing the time & money to preserve it.

  • Many thanks Phil, truly appreciate your feedback mate. A little bit of maintenance and money would preserve such a great icon of the area. It’s an amazing coal loader, would be very sad to see her go. Fingers crossed it’s fate isn’t written yet. :-)
