Surfers Paradise – Gold Coast – QLD – Australia

I chose the title of this image from a conversation i had with a mate who was holidaying here at the time with his family. Shannon Rogers, who is a great photographer here on Redbubble. Basically we were discussing the vibe of Surfers Paradise and the suitability for a family holiday destination. Like all City’s there is an up side and an element of less favourable activities. Surfers Paradise has long had a reputation for being a Party Town. A night spot hub, nightclubs, pubs and large crowds. To a degree it has tarnished the place for a family looking for a holiday amongst the great things that South East Queensland has to offer.
The upper half of this image represents the beautiful parts of the Gold Coast. The incredible beaches, amazing Hinterland surrounded by Rain Forest and scenic plains. Then there is the theme parks for the families, and shopping for all the girls. It is a truly beautiful part of Australia, and i find it hard to imagine living anywhere else.
……….. the reflection though, slightly muted and representing a darker and more grungy side of everything that shimmers. The nightlife that seems to bring out the worst in people. Drunken adolescence stumbling and staggering through the mall as they make their way from one club to another. Hardly a place for a young child or family vacation.

There is always “Two sides to every story” ………….

I guess i won’t get a call from QLD tourism wanting to use this image after that description ….. :-)

If you are planning a family holiday to the Coast soon ………. the Southern end is far more attractive and family orientated.
