I was up at the crack of dawn to visit our local farmer’s market and I came across David’s stall. I asked him politely if he would mind if I take photos of his roses, his face burst into a sunshine smile and he said “Of course not – you are more than welcome, but please, would you mind if I use them for my website?”… and so I started taking shots of his roses. The colours are all true – I did not fiddle with any processing or enhancements. His business is called “Bocca di Dio Roses” – which means “Kiss of the gods”… I must agree that these roses makes me feel like kissing for sure! ;-)
It also made me think of someone I know…
I always thought of you as a gift, wrapped in brightly coloured paper holding promises of excitement, surprise and endless joy.
One of those gifts I could hardly wait to open…
Slowly you allowed me to tear off bit by bit of your colourful paper – your skin, your soul, your dreams, your goals…
What I discovered inside, made me reach even deeper…
But you were a borrowed gift, this I knew, and soon I had to return you to your rightful owner.
Time slipped in somehow, and stole our joy…
Am I allowed to blame time?
I don’t know.
All I remember now is the laughter, the butterflies, the roses, the longing and the dreams…
And how I would have easily give up everything
…for one moment to redeem…

Wow, his roses certainly are most gorgeous! Lovely shot Maureen!
Pretoria’s farmer’s market on a Saturday sure is a place to find beautiful flowers, freshly baked custard croissant – which I don’t buy of course – and the prices are so reasonable. Always worth a visit. Thanks Maree :-)
