Running Rings
Image of a Blue Ringed Octopus just about at the end of its tether with the guy behind the camera.I have been told they possess enough venom to kill you several times. The blue rings become more evident when the creature is annoyed,as you can see it was time to leave this one alone.Image taken at Portsea pier,Victoria

dude I’ve been hunting for these little buggers here in okinawa going on three years and have yet to see one. Awesome shot! What depth and was it at dusk?

Mat your work is brillant!
I had my first “pet” Blue ring as a 10 year old. No one knew how deadly they were than. The major neurotoxin component of blue-ringed octopus venom is Tetrodotoxina a neurotoxin which is also found in pufferfish and cone snails. Tetrodotoxin blocks sodium channels, causing motor paralysis and sometimes respiratory arrest leading to cardiac arrest due to a lack of oxygen. You are correct in that they look their best (most colorful) when really P… O..!
Great capture one of the best I’ve ever seen (as they are very shy)!
MattTworkowski replied
Thanks so much Norm, that means a lot to me & thank you for the info

Great shot, Matt. While they can kill you with a bite, according to Mark Norman it is pretty difficult to get a fatal bite.

Love the contrast of fluorescence against the soft rusty seaweed surroundings…
