Taken on a property in the alpine region of New South Wales, Australia – Jindabyne. The day before I had been taking some photos of this old Chevy when the idea came across to incorporate this into a star trail photo. With the conditions not quite right, I held off for 24 hours.
For those who are wondering if it is some kind of photoshopped effect, it’s not. It is a single 25 minute exposure. This photo was taken in pitch black with the only ambient light being a full moon behind the camera. Whilst exposing, I used a torch to light up the Chey for approx 5 min during the shot. The ambient light from the full moon has lit up the scene during that 25 min exposure to give a day time effect. The star trail features the southern cross, which are the 5 brightest trails. That cloudy looking stuff is actually the milky way.
Conditions were perfect. Not a breath of wind, clear sky ahead and a full moon behind covered in cloud. To pull this off again would be near impossible. I was very lucky.
