Thinking girl
A girl thinking in a bus shelter, I think not knowing you’re being photographed is the best way to get an expression out of someone.

Wow, this is great! So many portraits end up looking staged, but there is something very human and natural about this photo… The sepia works really well here, too! Nice, thought-provoking image!

love the expression you caught which matches the rather dark and moody leather and that classy scarf.. she’s a star, obviously, and a genuinely top notch portrait of her

Wow thank u so so much for that comment.. feeling really proud now.. thnx again
Erin Lyall
Great photograph, I much prefer taking photographs of people when they don’t know it. Many people think they have to pose to look their best but often they look most beautiful when they are natural. I love the tones you’ve given this too.
Matt Sillence replied
I agree Erin… natural and not posed is the best…she is quite a beauty too… thanks for the comment and the time you have taken to look through my stuff.
Thanks again

i have to agree Matt not knowing they are being photographed is the only way to truly capture how they are feeling and what they are thinking. the next best thing is a setting in which they are comfortable and their personalities immerge… just my two cents lol. well done this is a beautiful candid

Christopher B.
I would love to be able to do more candid photography. Unfortunately my hulking 1ds Mark II with a 35-350mm zoom lens doesn’t really allow this to happen. =/ I think I need to invest in a Leica for street photography or something. Regardless, this is a wonderful photograph. I love the muted tones, both in color and her expression. Excellent work Matt!
Matt Sillence replied
well than u Christopher, I too this with a 50-500mm sigma (bigma), at a distance mind but never the less heavy also.
Cheers for your great comment, appreciate it
Craig Hender
Excellent portrait, and the toning works very well.

Brilliant!! You’ve captured this moment so well Matt. I totally agree with what you say about this being the best way to get an expression out of someone!
Matt Sillence replied
many thanks Lauri, I do love to people watch and when u have a long lens it makes it more interesting too…
Lauri7
Candid photography is what I’m most fascinated about myself and I would love to explore this area further. It’s incredible the stories people can reveal behind their masks! Do you know what I mean?
Matt Sillence replied
Oh I do know what you mean, have a look at one of my others and u can see lots of things in it.
Lauri7
Wow! It’s not only the expression on his face, but his body language as well. Great work Matt!
Matt Sillence replied
Lauri thank u so so much
Lauri7
Oh…also what looks like scars on his legs and his work boots reveal even more about his story. Or what one can imagine is his story.
Matt Sillence replied
oh they do… Thank u so much for your comments
netmonk
Very nice position and toning :)
Matt Sillence replied
many thanks netmonk, I was along way away from this girl. hence her naturalness…
