Why is it there?

A sunny day a smiling face looks back
From sometime past, I guess, when times were good.
But now it’s lodged within a sandstone crack
No idea why: I wonder if I should
Imagine why it’s there or what went wrong?
Now does it symbolise a friendship lost
A weakened love’s lament, a farewell song?
Have they moved on from stormy seas once tossed
By time and life and trials for those who try
To keep it all together in this world
While tested to the brink as years go by?
Has love that once was tight become unfurled?
I take another look, she smiles back
I say goodbye then wander down the track…

I managed to get a couple of hours to myself today, I walked around the headland and sat on the bench at the Warriwood Blowhole lookout, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. something caught my eye, it was a photo-booth sized print of a girl/woman wedged in a crack in the sandstone wall. It got me wondering about who had put it there and why?

A mystery that may have fallen through the cracks if you had not happened along the way me thinks.
Now tis a mystery shared and a pondering it makes one do.
Such is life marveled by the sands of time the outcome yet to be revealed. :)

Very intriguing, even poignant, and stirs the imagination! Nice writing, too. My first thoughts are it was left on a whim, or, a romantic break up, or sadly maybe someone who’s dead now had loved this place and someone put it there as a memorial. Or, maybe some quirk of the wind just deposited it there. But it does intrigue!
