I Dreamt about the Porker the Planner and the Procrastinator
Not sure where this came from, I started out with a different Idea then it took on a life of its own. Still it does contain a little of my simplified philosophy :-)
I Dreamt about the Porker the Planner and the Procrastinator belongs to the following groups:
All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Atheism, Core [C.O.R.E], The beauty of poetry and Vibration in Art and Verse - VAVoom! Why do we let our happiness
Depend upon another
In much the way a baby’s life
Depends upon its mother?
As the porker blames the hormones
Whilst scoffing a custard tart
The dreamer lives in the future
While the present is falling apart
The planner has it all laid out
So that nothing will be a surprise
The procrastinator is ruled by doubt
It could even be his demise
But it feels that in love or religion
Or even consumerist fetter
We think when we get to the next level up
Our lives are just gunna get better
As the porker scoffs the tart
The procrastinator waits
The planner scans the calendar
And ticks off all the dates
I guess the porker thinks that if
He does enough of scoffin’
He’ll get so bloody fat that he
Won’t fit in to a coffin
Procrastinator tries to speak
But just can’t find his voice
For deep inside he hopes that
Someone else will make his choice
Planner knows if all’s laid out
With no time to take a breath
(apart from ten on Tuesday week)
There’s never time for death
I guess that I’m mostly a dreamer
But not in a manner too zealous
For overindulgence in one of these types
Can make all the other ones jealous
The procrastinator gets no tart
The planner’s never late
The porker has a heart attack
We’re told that this is fate
The dreamer’s fate is hard to guess
His dreams may come true over time
If they come to fruition before he drops dead
They could take him to somewhere sublime
I’ve been to a number of funerals
Some sombre, some upbeat in tone
And I plan to attend many others
Before I have one of my own
I hope regrets aren’t there to haunt me
And they won’t if I’ve played my cards right
The way you perceive, not the roll of the dice
is the thing that turns dark into light
But when that grim reaper comes knocking
May I then be worn out and unsteady
And say “yes it’s time for the ashes and dust”
“Take my hand sir I think that I’m ready”

I so don’t wanna be a porker, I think I’ll be a dreamer Matt, and I’ll never look at a tart the same way ever again, I’ll just put it back in the fridge… xx
(goes and throws custard tart out immediately)
Matt Penfold replied
LOL, thanks Tracey, this actually led me to go for a bike ride today, I see that Elucidate has scoffed your tart already, gone are the days when I could eat like a pig and not put on weight :-)
Jordan Busson
Just brilliant! (And I’ll have Tracey’s custard tart.)
Matt Penfold replied
Thanks so much Jordan, you might as well eat it while you can, you won’t be able to get away with it forever ;-)
Alf Caruana
fantastic
Matt Penfold replied
Thanks Alf, much appreciated :-)
Lisa Jewell
I hope I play all the games right…..I doubt I will. When the reaper knocks my door down, I’ll say “what has taken you so long”.....not pessimistic, perhaps fatalistic.
hopefully I’ll have all my cards in a row.
and the joker in my hand.
a really profound piece
and I the procrastinator is finding her voice….hehe
xxx
Matt Penfold replied
That sounds like fun Lisa, because I plan to “be” the Joker ;-)
I figure I’m made up of each of them to varying degrees, I like to claim that it’s about balance but really it’s all about diversity and hopefully being able to have a bit of a laugh at ourselves, this sums it up for me

Brilliant writing Matt…..your simplified philosophy sure penned a rather amazing verse here. Really important work on the attitude towards one’s life. Live it …don’t let your ‘life’ live you . XX
Matt Penfold replied
Thanks KarenSue, I really like your take on it. I guess that even if your life does get the upper hand and “live you”, you might as well have a bit of a chuckle ;-)
linaji
I’ve no doubt .. that you time will be your time.. perhaps if we looked closely into the hearts of all you have aforementioned.. they too took this hand of transition so that once again they could find a way back to the dreamer.
Your work really makes me feel good. I like to laugh and in this case I like the way you express YOU. I feel let in a bit to an intelligent heart and soul.
Matt Penfold replied
Thank you indeed Lina, I reckon Most of us have a bit of each of those types in us, but as you point out the dreamer is the one to strive for. if we lose sight of the dreamer we might as well pack it in…
So good to know that my work make you feel good, that’s a worthy achievement :-)
Gregory John O...
Enjoyed that !!!
Matt Penfold replied
Thanks Greg, glad you enjoyed it mate :-)

Wonderful poem – but I think we need dreamers – we would still be living in caves if it weren’t for them
Matt Penfold replied
Oh I agree totally Shulie, without dreamers we would make no progress, apart from that it’s also rather pleasant to dream. Thank you for your lovely comment :-)

Well I’ve planned on handing over the tart to the grim reaper, and then worrying about whether I did the right thing, then I’ll go lie over there in those fluffy clouds and try to decipher what shapes they are…..but then again, I might not…:)
Matt Penfold replied
LOL, sounds like you have a good healthy balance going on there Mel, but if the reaper ain’t lookin’ I’ll be happy to share the tart with you, then we can sneak off and photograph those fluffy clouds (with a polarising filter of course) if we get around to it ;-)
Solar Zorra

Nice job! A very fun piece! I wish I had the talent of writing poetry, but I guess I’ll have to settle for my gruesome short stories! A very nice piece! Good job, buddy!
Matt Penfold replied
Thanks so much John, I do appreciate your comment. Your talent for writing gruesome short stories is remarkable, another example of the great diversity amongst us :-)

When I need to, I grab the cushion and belt it out….be a dear and delete this wouldja?
