Introducing leggings. You’ll never run out of inspiration.

Personal Computer

The time is right to purge my mind of hate
Allow the thoughts unkind to just take flight
Remove the things that on my senses grate
Defrag between my ears to shed some light
Clean up the disk I like to call my brain
And filter all the spam my head can’t hold
And bits and bytes that make me feel insane
And wipe out all the crap that I’ve been sold
Delete the history showing where I’ve browsed
Then empty out my thought recycle bin
And folders where my greed and envy’s housed
Remove the drive that holds my guilt for sin
But if I do all that I’m sure you’ll see
The bloke I end up being won’t be me.

I was thinking about how much of who we are is a reflection of the good the bad and the ugly, and how hollow it would feel if we removed all the less than perfect bits.

(not really, I was just being silly again)

    Excellent writing.

Remove the drive that holds my guilt for sin
But if I do all that I’m sure you’ll see
The bloke I end up being won’t be me

    This part resonates with me.

  • Thanks Helen, I reckon a lot of people could do with the removal of that particular drive, then again some COCs could use a few more gigabytes LOL ;-)

this is fabulous, it sooo makes sense, my head is like a computer sometimes lol

i remember times when i’ve felt like taking my mind out and giving it a really good soak and wring out hahahaa yes like a sponge, i usually drink copius amounts of alcohol in that situation ;)

    but i love this analogy.

  • Thanks PJ LOL, Alcohol is meant to be a really good cleaning agent so maybe it’s working, your writing is still fab. I’m not convinced the wringing out with a sponge is a good idea though hahaha might be better to put it through a wringer ;-)

Inspiring, Matt. Yet ominous and thought-provoking at the same time. Love your conceit. The extended metaphor, not the unfortunate character trait ;)

  • LOL Thanks so much Jordan, I think I’m suffering from virtual reality and lacking RAM and artificial intelligence but I appreciate your comment very much ;-)

Love this Matt…really wonderful analogy about how we tick! It makes me wonder about what sort of firewalls we have what filters we have ticked….sometimes it’s good to update the version. XX

  • Thanks KarenSue I guess the best we can do is try to keep the bullshit detector up to date, I think we’re stuck with the OS we were born with ;-)

    Very well written Matt.

I’m permanently looking for the undo button in real life, occasinally ctrl-alt-delete when it gets really bad!

  • LOL Thanks so much Stuart, even ctrl-alt-delete used to be a simple reboot, now it brings up a flaming task manager. I hope it doesn’t get really bad too often…that undo button would come in handy :-)

Matt…i actually think this is quite amazing…i very much enjoyed it.
I did notice it was a sonnet.
You aren’t just a ‘point and shoot’ man, you can string a few words together too. ;-)
So many lines..SLAP! behave s&ra xx

  • LOL, Thanks S&ra good to see you are being observant ;-) As far as the “So many lines..” goes, I see you’re also showing restraint, how refined :-)
