I drove down the Northern Beaches yesterday morning the sea mist ( Advection Fog ) was rolling in, I couldn’t get a park anywhere because of the Australia Day celebrations and the hoards arriving to escape the heat. I decided on the rock shelf at the northern end of Mona Vale and was just in time to climb onto a large boulder, set up the camera, and see the last of the fog lifting. A normally uninspiring view (because of all the houses on the headlands) was just beautiful.

Usaully a photographers worst friend, but looks like you became besties with it. Works, and looks a treat.!

  • Thanks mate, I’ve shot here before but usually it’s looking out to sea at sunrise, this mist is pretty rare here :-)

It sure is just beautiful Matt! so glad you just managed to avoid the holiday hordes too!

  • It’s pretty incredible that the beaches were absolutely chockablock and yet I could find a spot only a five minute walk from the car with not a soul in sight. Thanks so much Kallena :-)

Lovely! The long exposure has really made this view very special, as has the mist!

  • Thanks Mel, I do still love the black glass, and yes, being able to get a long exposure in bright light is a bonus, bummer that I had to use f/22 though. :-)

Wonderful, Matt. I would’ve guessed the UK ;) The mist sure adds something special!

  • Thanks Mieke, I see what you mean, at one point I had it looking a bit like a Turner watercolour (I wish ;) funny thing though, in the UK it would be cold, where I took this I was wearing shorts and a light cotton shirt and I was sweating :-))

South coast was also very misty .. and also – I drove through the dark low lying cloud at Kiama yesterday .. beautiful photo :)

  • Thank you very much Anna, I can imagine that it would have been really beautiful down there too, and maybe just a touch cooler even :-)
