Another shot at Mona Vale pool, this time with the 10mm to 22mm lens. I had to hold the tripod still and my shorts got soaked. The Initially this had a lot more distortion, I sent it to Mel and she did some magic perspective squishing and sent it back to me, then I squished it back up to roughly the original aspect ratio and here is the result.

Canon 450D EF-s 10-22mm lens
Cokin P 121S ND Grad filter
ISO400 f/9 1.6s f=10mm

So Mel did some voodoo and then you did some hexing and look you have make water turn into sea clouds!
Really clever me thinks….pity you got your shorts wet but well worth the effort for this is indeed a magical pic. I love the tones of this Matt….that pinkish hue against the blue with the clouds of water has me thinking I could lay down there and have a sleep amongst all that water cotton :O)

  • Thanks Karen, yep Mel added a touch of genius, it’s hard to know how these sort of shots will come out, it was pretty dark and the pinkish glow is really only noticeable in the image, not in real life. Sleeping there would be hard, it’s cold and wet… :-)

Beautiful shot Matt Matt, I don’t completely understand where it is at though. Is this a closed off pier? :) Solar

  • Hey Sol Sol, thanks, glad you like this one, it’s actually swimming pool built on a rock platform which juts out into the ocean, at high tide and with a bit of a sea running the waves wash over the pool and create this wonderful effect.

I recently found this article# specifically about this pool by a really good photographer. it has a similar shot in it but also has other images which show what the pool is like and just how unimaginative I’ve been so far in photographing it :-)

other than that, straight out of the camera, eh? heh

I love the golden glow on the uprights here, they add so much to the mood….and of course the gorgeous pastels…

  • LOL, that’s right, a new process called the “Brackstone effect” ;-)

even with all that squishing it still has a much wider “feel” than the 18mm you shot earlier..looks like you shot from pretty much the same place?

  • Yep Mel, it’s shot from almost the exact same spot, I’ll take you there for a sticky beak and I’m sure you’ll do some magic with it :-)
