Eleanor by Matt Penfold

Currently unavailable for purchase

Eleanor is a friend of my grandson Jett, they go to swimming lessons together, she’s a wonderful little character (the other shots of her had her tongue poking out at me :-).

This was taken with the Bendy Loupe Lens using an aperture disc.

Canon 450D ISO400 1/40s f/19 f=75mm (approximately)

Hand held

Love the bokeh Matt!! Excellent focus on her face!

  • Thanks Mel, as you know it’s a bit of a lucky dip with the bendy lens. I can’t wait to see what you can do with it using a full frame camera, I’m thinking it’ll be pretty good :-)

Do you really think it’ll make such a huge difference?

  • It should do Mel, though this is a 75mm lens it’s field of view is equivalent to a 120mm lens when it’s on my camera. This same shot on a full frame camera would have more image area on both height and width and all that extra area would be blurred more severely than the blur in this image.

You know I’m dyslexic with numbers don’t you Matt? My eyes roll up into my head and my hands start to shake when people quote figures at me….

  • Sorry Mel, please disregard the first half of my previous reply ;-)

Lovely capture, the innocence of her beauty seems to be magnified in this style of photograph.. just delightful. Matt I think you have really got the knack of this …. :)) X

  • Thanks KarenSue, there’s a lot to learn about this contraption but it does get some interesting shots :-)

Your contraption is working well me-thinks. A gorgeous soft, gentle picture showing off little Eleanors charm extremely well.

  • Thanks Danielle, I think this one captured her quite nicely, it’s good fun to play around with homemade photographic devices, I’ll add another journal soon about the aperture disks for the bendy loupe lens. Good to see you by the way, have you been taking many photos? :-)
