Panorama of the frequently-photographed approach to Venice, the campanile in St Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) being particularly obvious along with the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale).

The original panoramic image was made up from about 52 photos (3 × 14) but this portion was cropped out of the centre. The photos were taken from the campanile on San Giorgio Maggiore, a short trip across the canal. Although lower than the campanile in St Mark’s Square, you get a good view across to Venice and the queues are often shorter.

There are more photos on my Panoramio site ( where you are able to zoom in for more detail – particularly of the Teatro Fenice ceiling.
