Deidre, how have you been? I smile like I mean it.
Clayton, surprise seeing you here. She smiles blatantly obvious she did not really care.
Not my idea Deidre I respond quickly with indication to Henry, my
indolent friend, we need to leave.
Clayton, how did you create enough courage to come to this party?
(Pause) I…….
No really interrupts Deidre. Did you think no one would remember? Or that we would be over it?
I have no response. I think intensely for a sharp response but feel left smiling courageously but knowing I have been put in my place.
Just as Henry is about to try and change the topic I build up what should have been built earlier and explode.
Well you see Deidre, unlike your special self, I do not hold onto issues that really had no business of mine to start with. Now I understand you like to play the part of hero but in all honesty it is and has never been any of your fucking business.
When I swear I seem to amplify the words and put some credence into them. So by now the party has made a slight adjustment to see what is going on. Swearing at the girl never goes down well but heavens does it feel good.
Excuse me sounding very much prude responds Deirdre.
At this point I feel somewhat eager to make a mark on my unwanted audience, not caring for any repercussion, I delight myself with more kind words.
Are you fucking deaf Deidre?
Completely offended by my fierce unduly behaviour, Deidre walks away with an under the breath comment of Fuck Off.
I smile righteously.
The party uncharacteristically gets back into its early flow without any suggested opinion on the matter. Henry puts his best ideas forward and offers me a ride home.
I walk out hoping to have a slow clap of support but remember that I really am an arsehole.

This piece does raise the question.
How long does a person have to keep saying sorry.
Clayton might have been an arsehole but Deidre is self righteous bitch.
Nice one, Matt…I was totally involved.
