SF Skyline and the Bay Bridge by Night
This is not your “usual” shot of the S.F. city skyline and Bay Bridge that you are used to seeing… those are shot from overhead. There are reasons this view is not seen all over the place…
To get to this location, there are a lot of obstacles to overcome. Sheer drops with nothing but rocks and ocean below abound, jagged metal from construction jut up from the ground when you least expect, and the keep out signs from the government didn’t help to settle my nerves any either. For that last reason you don’t want to use your flashlight as you head down the slopes for fear of the coast guard seeing you. That makes the afore mentioned problems magnified.
So… all that said, it was a calm beautiful night on the bay and once I reached this area, I found this sight so breathtaking that it took me easily five minutes before I remembered why I came to the spot.

Hello everyone! Sorry I’ve been away. This shot is now becoming pretty common place since my friend Steve and I went and got the very first shots (that we know of) from this point. Since then, other pics started popping up all over, there are a lot better blue hour ones and sunset ones and ones with the embarcadero lit up and such… but this was the first and I’m proud of that. Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. I’m feeling all warm and toasty inside.

Yeah, half the work was indeed on getting there… then the other half was climbing back up the steep grade… it wore me out! It was the rare aspect of getting this shot that made me all the more want to do this… I have my friend Steve to thank for taking me along though, cause I never would have thought of shooting from this spot on my own. Now that we did it, there have been quite a few folks who have braved the trek down to the base of the bridge and caught it in much more splendor than this… but I still like it. Thanks for the kind thoughts!

Hey Mat…............I used to work for BART as a Resident Engineer and I say a very similar view from Pier 39 Warf many times around midnight before I decended 100’ down to the track of the BART transbay tube…..Night Shots can be tricky and this is a good one…Kudos Again Buddy!
