Small Leafy Sea Dragon near Wool Bay Jetty. While the dragons can be found at a number of sites around SA, Wool Bay is probably the most reliable. They blend in very well to the weed that they live in, but once you find one, usually you spot them everywhere!

Great shot of this amazing creature,how many do you usually see at dive sites where they are known to be as an average?

Thanks Matt. At this site I’d usually see 4 or 5 in the weed off to the right at the end of the very short jetty. Although, a group of 7 of us dived there on October long weekend and didn’t see one, so it’s not a guarantee. Rapid Bay jetty is another good spot (where these ones were taken), although they’re building a new jetty at the moment, so there is no access to dive the old jetty, which will be left there. Kangaroo Island is the other reliable place, but I haven’t dived there much.

Wow, I have to assume this is a type of seahorse?? I love learning new things, I should have waited to view this at work, then celebrated the learningnewthing by going home early… OK, well, maybe in the perfect little world that I live in…

Thanks Steve, Kreesor and Syd! Haha, I agree Syd, definitely worth celebrating with an early minute or two! Yep, they are members of the Syngnathidae family, along with seahorses and pipefish.
