Thanks Ben. The reflection was one of the goals of the composition.

  • Gareth Holloway

    Gareth Holloway

i love this shot. But I wonder is it a combination of 2 shots or more? the reason i ask is that the sea has hardly any movement in it – say an exposure of half a second, and yet the lightning would have need a longer exposure? i am just interested how you did it! gareth

  • Matt Duncan replied

Thanks Gareth. You are exactly right that it is a half second exposure. It is actually a single image. One shot from many which didn’t make the cut. I have added some capture details for you.

  • Helen Phillips

    Helen Phillips

Brilliant Matt. However you did it! (I have never managed a successful capture of lightning)

  • Matt Duncan replied

Thanks Helen. I’ve managed a couple, and It’s very fulfilling when you do.

Beautiful stuff! This shot would suit our group In The Eyes Of Danger

  • Matt Duncan replied

Thanks Andrea. I appreciate the suggestion. :)
I don’t think I would have rated it as a dangerous situation, except for the threat of water damage to equipment at the time.

I don’t know which one I like best, the black and white has that sense of darkness and brewing but the color one is so vibrant and real, brilliant on both of them.
