Homelessness in the Metropolitan area has risen in the District due to foreclosures, lost jobs, and poor economic conditions. The lack of affordable housing has also driven families into homelessness.
According to the Washington Post “Nearly a third were children and 5,315 were in families, an increase from 4,995 last year.The number of homeless families in the Washington area has risen 9.5 percent…"
As the tourist pass by through the treeline near the reflecting pool an occassional group walked passed this man as he sat sleeping. None gazed on him through their conversations with each other.
