Fear and Despair: The Pursuer by

Fear and Despair is a series of works based on the basic human emotion of fear, while touching on depressive moods. It explores the concept that spirits live among us and that their presence can be felt in the physical world, often manifesting as deep and powerful emotions.

There are numerous references in the work, the grays, who appeared in the previous series A boy and his monster. Nosferatu’s version of Dracula. The Hatted Hunter, who appeared in the previous work The Relentless Pursuer. And finally Zombie who is a reoccurring character, best known for his appearances in the works Trinity of the Self and The Weight of a Heavy Burden.

The Pursuer is from a reoccurring series of dreams where a man without a face follows the artist constantly with an outstretched arm. It is thought that this being if a symbol for a sexual prowler, as there has been stories of him appearing in the dreams of other people that have been sexually abused in their life.

very emotive piece… not easy bringing demons to the surface………….b

  • I’ve created another series that went much deeper than anything I’ve done on this site. I can’t even bare to look at them, they make me break down, they’re so direct and to the point that they’re absolutely painful. I can cope with the symbolism in these works though. If it gets rough I can block the meaning behind the symbolism, where the direct works I can’t hide from the truth it shows so openly.

My favourite in the series. Love how the combination of photography and drawing work so well together.

  • Thanks Paul, I think the hardest part was dealing with the printer haha. It was playing up and refusing to print the photo in neutral grays, blacks and whites. But what’s a series like this without a little bit of torture in the art making process.
