    Thank you, LastLittleBird, I agree that this is a superb fairy tale, that in my opinion is often overlooked and under-rated. The characters, plot, settings and descriptions in the text are so bold, varied, unusual, vivid and vibrant, that I just had to illustrate it!

    At first I was drawn up by the tall, tall trees, but then my eyes wandered back down and discovered that she did indeed find herself in a dark wood, and apparently she is not alone. I like how the composition kept me from immediately seeing the figure hiding behind the trees. Unless I am seeing things…then nevermind!
