So cool!! Monotypes are such fun…this is great! What type of ink do you use?

  • Tama Blough replied

This was done in school and we used traditional oil-based Daniel Smith printing inks. I stopped printmaking because I was always up to my elbows in the stuff and was bad about gloves – felt like immersing in petroleum products probably wasn’t great for me. May try it again now that they have slow-dry water-based ink.

that’s terrific Tama, very interesting process too!

  • Tama Blough replied

Thanks, Karen. I got two prints from the plate but I can’t remember what happened to the ghost – I think I gave it as a baby present – it was much softer.

Alexandra, they are making inks now that have soya bean oil base!!

Get out your fingers, ‘cause it’s time to party!!

    Sorry about that!

    I mean Tama of course!
Always stuffing up peoples names. As Shakespeare says ‘a rose by any other name would smell as sweet!’

  • Tama Blough replied

No worries! I have heard of those inks. One of my friends has a press – I just have to book some time on it.

This is an adorable piece of art, Tama. I am not familiar with monotype. It looks much like a painting or water color. Love you title and the bunnies faces are so cute. Very good work.

  • Tama Blough replied

Monotype is the placement of ink or other pigment on a blank plate and then printing it. There are usually no more than one or two prints, and generally the second image is paler, or the artist reworks it a bit. This one does look fairly painting-y.

It sounds like an interesting technique and that it’s best to get things right the first time around. Thanks so much for sharing the procedure with me. I can really appreciate the art so much more knowing how much work goes into it. You did a great job on the bunnies!!!

  • Tama Blough replied

Thanks so much, and always happy to share info.
