Fantastic, what a wonderful effect! I’ve not tried salt etching, what is the process?
Tama Blough replied
Thanks! As I recall, you coat the plate with hard ground, let harden, then add a pile of salt – do your picture in the salt with brushes and then gently heat the plate so the salt kind of melts into the ground but doesn’t actually melt. Then you let it cool and rinse off the salt – rubbing gently so as not to disturb the ground. Put the plate in the acid. The hardest part is getting the salt to cooperate, and you have to do the work on the cold hotplate so it doesn’t have to be moved. There is an artist named Bruce Botts (he is googleable) who was my hero of the salt lift.
Thanks for favoriting!

Thanks for the info Tama, I really appreciate it! (When I can finally get my print studio up and running, I’m going to give this technique a go!)

No problem – you may want to look it up, though – I may have been talking out of my butt! It’s been a while…

LOL….no problem, and thanks!! (Its a bit like when someone asked how I do my blueprints, I remember vaguely, but it has been a while!)
