Made myself my second trip down to Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive this past weekend, hoping to see some fall color, but knowing that I probably have a couple more weeks. I picked myself up an annual pass and hope to explore the park much more in the coming year.

Went for a short hike on Saturday up to Little Stony Man Cliffs in the hope that we would be greeted with a good sunset. Having never been to the cliffs before, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The view was, to say the least, quite spectacular with the rocky face of the cliffs themselves, the view in the Shenandoah valley with the town of Luray down below, and Massanutten mountain off in the distance.

As my friend and I watched the clouds move in and out of view, I knew we might have the makings of a nice sunset. The clouds moved back in front of the sun, creating a nice orange glow. The slightly hazy day allowed the golden and slightly purple sunlight to spill into and fill the valley with a wonderful glow as some of the last light of the day fell on the cliffs below my feet.

While the Autumn colors were not in full swing, they were just beginning to show. We found this great crack through the cliffs that just dropped away. I wanted to pull in the little bit of fall colors that were showing, so I framed a few trees within the crack. Sneak Peek of what is to come this fall!
