*CALVARY*

Written on the remembrance of a Lent Mission lead by Franciscan Brothers. As we left the church we found a rough hewn cross in which nails had been hammered, whilst we had been in ‘silent’ contemplation inside.

Please view my artwork of the same name.
This inspired the written recollection.

Living Christianity

Holy Week.
A quiet time in church.
Time for contemplation.
We had heard the story;
Sung hymns;
Prayed.
Such a lot to consider,
Now, in silence.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The church
In the town centre;
Never quiet outside.
But the sounds
Do not generally
Penetrate
The peace
Of this Holy space.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Concentrate!
Consider the walk
To that green hill.
What pain;
What despair!
Oh! The noise!
The Hecklers,
The Wailers.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Heavy wood
Tearing at skin;
Blood trickling down
An already beaten body.
Many jeered,
A few wept.
Jesus walked
And stumbled.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Tears start to flow.
Surely not guilt?
But I was not there!
Or was it my self that
Weighed heavy like wood?
Were the splinters
That tore His skin,
Really my sins?

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A point hammered home -
Like a nail in wood.
I wept for Him.
He wept for me;
I repented;
He forgave.
He died;
I live on…..

Alleluia, He is Risen.

    What can I say, but wish every one here could read this!!. The imagery is so real, and so humbling… and so true..
