A pair of American Avocets (Recurvirostra americana).

Having just mated, the male very lovingly places his wing over the female and they briefly cross bills. A very endearing part of their mating display. Who said romance is dead?

Photographed at Summer Lake Wildlife Refuge, Oregon, USA

I love Avocets. I got pictures of babies this last weekend. Darling little fluff balls. This is gorgeous.

  • Thank you so much Bunny and lucky you getting shots of babies…I haven’t got the timing right for that yet and unfortunately we dont get them breeding locally. Closest I’ve got to a photographing a baby Avocet is three eggs on a nest, lol!!
