A Northern Hawk Owl about to devour a hapless rodent. Photographed on the outskirts of Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC , Canada this was a very rare visitor to the Island and stayed in the same location for several weeks.

    Perfect timing for a wonderful and rare capture of a Northern Hawk Owl with its prey! I have a feeling I may have met you and or was taking pics of this owl on one of the same mornings? It sure was exciting to see a Northern Hawk Owl in real life and on Vancouver Island where they normally don’t venture! Thank you for sharing this very nice photo of special visitor here! : )

  • Apologies for the delay in responding Sandy, this one seemed to have slipped through the net! Anyway thank you very much for your kind comments! We may well have met at this location as I was there on several occasions and met quite a few people. It certainly was a great photographic opportunity to have such a rare visitor to the Island! Lets hope for more such opportunities this coming winter (if it ever stops raining!!!)
