"Pacific Treefrog"

Pacific Treefrogs are small chorus frogs, up to 5 centimeters long, and range in colour from pale grey or tan to bronze or bright emerald green. They have a conspicuous dark stripe extending from the nostrils through the eye as far as the shoulder. They are often marked with dark patches or stripes on the back, and are usually pale cream underneath. Their legs are long and slender and their toes have round pads, which help the frog grip and climb. There is very little webbing between the toes, which makes them look quite long. Females are slightly larger than males, a feature common to most frogs.
They live in many types of habitats and reproduce in aquatic settings. This species is also known as the Pacific Chorus Frog.
This little guy was photographed on a leaf in the Morrell Nature Sanctuary, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

Awe,...so cute!!! Lovely light and perfect dof and focus! I love these little guys and have many of them in my gardens. I have one that hangs out in my garden hose box and it was sitting just under the lid this morning. I always carefully open the lid and close it and I say sorry to the frog when ever I have to open the lid and disturb it. lol Thanks for sharing the information on the Pacific tree frog. : )

  • Martin Smart replied

Lol! Thanks so much for your kind comments Sandy, much appreciated!

Amazing capture – I presume they’re quite skittish, so to get one so clear, with such great DOF, it’s brilliant

  • Martin Smart replied

Thanks very much Themis, this one was actually quite docile and sat on the leaf for a while giving me the opportunity to capture a couple of images.
