It’s always been an ambition of mine since taking up photography to capture a Lightning Strike in one of my images. Over the years I have had several attempts at taking these impressive images but I’ve never been successful— my eyes see the strike but by the time I’ve pressed the shutter the image has gone. On our last visit to Monument Valley we had quite a thunderstorm early in the morning when the clouds were threatening, the sun had just risen giving a warm feel to the red sandstone Mittens and the light was perfect. It only took me a few attempts to capture what I wanted. I’m really proud of this image which already has been blown up to a very large size and is on my lounge wall and looks quite impressive.
