The row of trees at the southern end of Buttermere is called ‘The Sentinels’. It’s one of the most famous and photographed row of trees in Lakeland. If you are lucky enough you may pass Buttermere when they are reflected in the water as along with Haystacks and High Crag. High Crag is one of the fells that forms part of the High Style range. When the cloud is low and the lake is calm you can get some dramatic shots especially early in the morning when the sun has just risen.
Sadly, many of the trees have suffered from wind damage over recent years and some of them have either lost branches or blown down. This image serves as a reminder of how hey once were.
