Lichfield Exhibition in Grantham Lincolnshire UK - Must See
There is currently an exhibition of Patrick Lichfield’s work at Union Interiors, Union Street, Grantham, Grantham NG31 6NZ. (Address given for Sat Nav or Google Maps.)
It is (obviously) a retrospective with images dating back from the sixties. It is a mixture of old and newer work; colour and black and white.
There are quite a few images of iconic characters from the sixties and seventies such as George Best, Pele, Mick Jagger and Tommy Cooper as well as a simple portrait of the Kidd sisters who were at the opening night apparently (or perhaps just one of them). Sorry I missed that (I have only just managed to visit because I have been away). I was quite taken with the shots of Dirk Bogarde taken on film sets. Some of the photographs have never been exhibited before so this is a rare treat.
For those that don’t know the Union, it is a shop specialising in home furnishings, art and lifestyle. It is worth a visit any time (the folks there don’t mind people simply browsing) but especially now with the Lichfield images on the wall. There is also a cabinet of Lichfield’s cameras on display. Both images and cameras are for sale but there is no obligation or pressure to buy. It is not often that an exhibition of such a well-known photographer makes its way out of London so take the opportunity to visit. It started on 02 October and was originally intended to run for six weeks although when I visited 2 days ago they said they were going to extend it. I don’t know how much longer it will be up so go sooner rather later. You can phone ahead to check. The shop is closed on Mondays.
You can park in Lidl car park on Union Street which is adjacent to the Union, or in Asda car park which is across the road.
I have no connection with the Union; I simply think it would be a shame to miss seeing this exhibition on our doorstep.
While you are in Grantham pop into Cafe Leo for a great coffee and a bite to eat. (For sat nav – 75 Westgate, Grantham, Lincs, NG31 6LA) I heartily recommend the food there for no other reason than I think it is good although I must admit that I currently have some images on display on their walls.
All the best
Martin
