White Barn by Marriet

This white barn is near the bridge at Washington’s Crossing, Bucks County, PA. I always pass it when I am driving to Rt. 95 or on a scenic drive in the areas I love. I’m used to barns being red or natural, so this one is a little different.

I started drawing for my son, who was fascinated with it as a child. I took a few classes in colored pencil and watercolor and found the company to be exceptional, and have loved the art world since.

Wonderful job on the challenging white barn! Great shadows!!!!!

  • Marriet

Thank’s for your favor and comment. I like that time of day when the shadows are long. It’s dramatic and somehow emotional to me.

Beautiful work Marriet, love the barns in PA especialy the Amish ones. Just don’t see them this neat in NC unless they’ve been converted to a restaurant….lol.

  • Thank you very much Jim. This is in a state park so it’s kept up very well, and I think a lot of the barns in Bucks County are beautiful because it is an old Quaker area, begun hundreds of years ago, and beauty is a premium in this area. It’s scenic and beloved and since I grew up around here, I have always appreciated the architecture. So many wonderful old stone homes too. I missed that tremendously when I lived in Virginia for 20 years, though VA has quite a bit of charm too. Not having lived or traveled in NC I have no reference, but what you say about them being converted to a restaurant is amusing. We need to maintain some of our heritage. My husband once took down a barn and put it back up, mending as he went, with no nails. Mortise and tenon.

    wonderful painting.

  • Glad that you like it. Thank you for that and your fave. This barn is in a state park in Washington’s Crossing and I like it because it is different, (white) and because it is kept so nicely. That is a pretty part of the world,
