Cruising by Marriet

Dad ( Franklin Spencer) loved boating and he always had a few boats either at dock or on land getting ready to go back in. He was a wiz at taking things apart and fixing them. That was how we got our boats. Occasionally we even took them out and spent the weekend on the boats, such as in this picture.

The boat he is on here was his favorite, a custom boat out of Marblehead, Massachusetts. He was cruising on the Delaware River in the slide that I painted this picture from. Gotta love that Kodachrome. The blues were so rich and incredible!

Though this was years ago, I still have the flag from the back of the boat, a little worse for wear, but intact.

I started drawing for my son, who was fascinated with it as a child. I took a few classes in colored pencil and watercolor and found the company to be exceptional, and have loved the art world since.

    Well done!

  • Thank you LT! It is so much fun to do family members. People are hard
to do! If you make an error in landscape or florals, no problem. No one will even notice, likely. But a face! Different story! Glad you commented. ")

Beautiful portrait of your dad! You did a great job on the lighting and contrast with your colors!

  • Thank you Jennifer. I hesitate to do people because they are so difficult and
a mistake really shows. But it’s a very rewarding subject, isn’t it? Appreciate your comment.
