GAY LIKE ME
This is a collaboration I did with my friend Mister….he wrote the first verse ….I wrote the second…..I hope to soon see him on RB. He is an extremely talented young man.
GAY LIKE ME belongs to the following groups:

• Being Gay:
A joyous presence masked by hurtful undertones.
I’ve learned to leave well enough alone
and settle myself calmly at home.
Me being gay?
Hell, no way.
Cause regardless of what I say it comes out negative anyway.
But I’m supposed to be happy and cherish the world that had me and to think that sadly I’m commonly referred to as nasty.
Being gay, an experience of its own.
Although many may never know,
the ignorance continues to grow.
But I ask myself, what do I have to show?
It’s better to pick up the phone then leave this soul alone.
A consistent conflict amongst myself.
And as I put myself respect on the shelf,
I learn I’m more than everyone else.
I’m me… being gay.
Some folks are intrigued by the way,
they see me being gay,
because I choose to lead the way,
uplifting those who lack understanding about the way I live,
sleep to the fact,
unaware of what I have to give,
so I position myself on the front lines
composing and creating,
line after line,
defying the hands of time,
because I’ll be born again,
heard again,
and read again,
and all that’s being said here,
will be said again,
by new generations of gays,
expressing themselves, through poems, songs and plays,
plus movies on the big screen,
to expose these things,
artistry at it’s finest,
precious and timeless,
for an eternity and then some,
more battles will be won,
so if you should get the opportunity
to converse and engage in dialogue with me,
just know that I am G rowing A nd Y earning,
and I am only being me

I am not particularly fond of the word ’’gay’’ to describe someone’s sexual orientation. It does make it sound superficial and camp. I can not speak for the newer generation of kids, but in my generation, if you were ’’gay’’ your life was made a hell at school. Most societys still dsicriminate against homosexuals, some even go as far as making them feel unsafe… with all this prejustice and bigotry… how gay are ’’gay’’ people?

Excellent collaboration between two great minds and feeling heaets. I hope in our lifetime to see us being treated equally as people. The slow acceptance is making a difference although some cultures will never accept all people.
As usual, I am touched by your words and beautiful heart. Xoxo

The three need to get together and form a young man’s gay coalition and go around recruiting all the young gays to stand up and BE. haha
And I am sure you know that part of me is serious. Very serious. I will continue to write about this subject because it is so real to me. Thanks my friend…I am so happy to see you cartoon face on the comments.
Thanks Cass…I will have to introduce you to Mister….hopefully he’ll put a profile together and put some of his work up.

I love this, it is so honest and YOU. To tell us all about who you are and what it means to you to be you, so many feel they must preach about who they are, they must drill it into the readers head over and over again until the reader starts to feel atacked rather than enjoy the read. One does not have to share the same life to enjoy another’s life. Art gives us this power and you have done it well! Keep being U!

each generation the struggle becomes easier in the “gay” world…... it saddens me sometimes that today’s gay culture holds little memory or respect of all those that fought so hard to be accepted in years past…. ask someone today about stonewall….... it will suprise you the history that has been lost…....... ANYWAYS…. thank you for this wonderful one man perspective on being gay and how it helps define your vision of the world and others in it….... we need more honest soulful writing such as this….. i applaud you…........b
MarkezzAckui ... replied
thank you for this comment….you have opened my eyes to something I was not even aware of and I am one who loves to learn…so thanks for teaching….I was unaware of “stonewall”....
your comment/compliment means a lot to the both of us….thanks so much!

It will be wonderful if the day comes when people are judged on the type of person they are, rather than on race, religion or sexual orientation. There is a benifit to your struggle for acceptance in the world, that you will be a person of substance, a person of real compassion and understanding that others can turn to and call you brother.

I find it sad and perplexing how society likes to do the labeling thing….. Like I don’t have people coming up and saying ’ Oh your a woman’ Or ’ Look she’s a woman’ ....What we are is people with desires for happiness and most of us willing to share the ‘goodness’ of our selves. I think you have shared you goodness in a very eloquent piece of writing. XX

thank you so much for this lovely comment…we both are grateful of people like yourself.

wonderfully written….. you are the person you are and if people can not identify and see the person inside then they are just narrow minded and ignorant….. this is a beautiful strong piece of writing, the first piece of your work I’ve read of many I’m sure…. thank you for sharing this xx

Your words are powerful and honest. I do agree that there is still a long way to go for many people to understand just how hurtful they can be with off handed comments and thoughts of how something is when they really don’t have any idea.
Much of it is peer pressure. The younger generations most of all will just follow what their friends are saying with out thought. I try to do my part, by not engaging in conversation that is negative and disrespectful of anyone’s sexual orientation. I just tell people that we need to agree to disagree…..often it brings up conversation where we can safely discuss why I feel that it is so destructive to judge anyone. That kind of conversation is very enlightening for some people…..helping them to understand that they need to think a lot more before they speak and most importantly before they judge…...but we are all guilty of judgement. I can tell you this ….I am guilty. But I am aware and that is the very first step…..being aware and stopping your self before you hold onto judgement.
I always remember a line from a song by Jewel, “in the end only kindness matters.”
Great writing!! Keep up the good work.

People have to learn to love themselves and respect their lives, not to judge other’s. If God wanted them to go around passing judgement on people, they’d be at the right hand. No body is a saint and everyone has a fault. No sin is greater than the other, lying is as bad as killing. Stealing is as bad as rape, in the eyes of God no sin is worse than the other. To myself, sexuality is nothing to be prosecuted for especially because I have a gay brother back home. We make our own lives, and thats what we have to do to make things work. We do what we have to to make ourselves feel good, the approval of others is purely artificial. This is a lovely work and I really see a lot of things through it. Thanks for writing this.
MarkezzAckui ... replied
Is he cute? haha:))))
only kidding…but I am serious when I say thank you for this comment…I love the way you express yourself when you leave these comments for me…I always get something of value. You give it a lot of thought and I appreciate that….it also keeps me thinking, and that matters to me a great deal.

thanks man…that means a lot to me because this one stands for so much in my everyday life….on the one hand it isn’t all that I am and on the other hand it is such a huge part of who I am…the way that I am seen and the way I see things….it’s quite the battle to find the balance at times. I plan to become more and more active withing the community and represent the freedom of self that I have discovered since coming out.
thanks for your kind words.
