WITHIN MY BLACKNESS
This poem may be perceived in different ways…which is ok….that’s the risk we all take when posting new writings. My hope and intention is to shed some light on African American men in general. In some parts of the world this is not even an issue….in other places it is. This poem is about being human…..

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I AM BLUE,
THIS REPRESENTS MY COMPASSION FOR HUMANITY,
I HAVE MOMENTST WHEN I AM YELLOW,
THAT IS FOR THE FEAR I TEND TO FEEL WHEN FORGING AHEAD INTO UNKNOWN TERRITORY….
THAT YELLOW QUICKLY TRANSFERS TO A BRIGHT RED,
RED FOR COURAGE TO KEEP AT IT,
RED FOR MY EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT,
MY PASSION,
WITHIN MY BLACKNESS IS A ROYAL PURPLE,
THIS REPRESENTS MY CODE OF ETHICS,
EVEN WHEN NO ONE IS AROUND TO SEE,
I MUST CARRY MYSELF IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION,
I HAVE DAYS WHEN I AM BROWN,
THE BROWN SYMBOLIZES TRANQUILITY,
AND SERENITY,
I AM AT PEACE WITH MYSELF AND OTHERS,
BRIGHT ORANGE IS MY SENSE OF ADVENTURE,
MY WILLINGNESS TO STEP OUT ON A LIMB AND LET GOD’S WILL BE DONE,
GREEN WEIGHS HEAVY ON ME,
FOR I AM A LOVER OF NATURE,
THE BIRDS,
THE SQUIRRELS,
THE TREES,
THEIR RHYTHM…..THEIR HARMONY,
THE WHITE WITHIN MY BLACKNESS IS FOR GROUND NOT YET COVERED,
UNTAINTED, NON-BIASED
REVELATIONS YET TO COME,
FOR ME….GREY IS INTRICATE AND DETAILED,
IT IS THE COLOR I AM DURING DIFFICULT DECISION MAKING,
I CAN GO ONE WAY OR THE OTHER…..BUT THERE IS NO RUSH,
PINK IS FOR MY SOFTER SIDE,
GOOD DEEDS STEM FROM MY PINK CLOUD…
AND THROUGH ALL OF THIS,
I STILL MAINTAIN MY BLACKNESS

Why thank you! I have to tell you, for some reason I started to not reveal this piece…it just goes to show that to doubt yourself can be a major setback. I didn’t expect to get such a response from this poem.
Being able to express my creativity is what puts a smile on my face and keeps me out of harms way. This is something I will never stop doin. I am eage and excited about my future with writing.! Thank you again…it really means a lot to me.

” A rainbow of a soul” You got it!....thanks b….when I first had the poem in my mind I wanted to relate being black to being gay…...so I wanted to include the rainbow of course! Sometimes my pen takes off and does its own thing…..and this is the result…..this has been quite a learning lesson for me, because I’ll tell you like I told other people….I wasn’t going to put this one out there…but I am glad I did.
