Golf Shoot

I have a golf shoot booked for March. Any sport photographers out there with any tips for me? It’s a corporate golf day for 72 participants in 18 teams. They have requested individual shots and team shots. Runs over 3 hours.

The images will run on a screen during the evening dinner.

Any tips for great golf pics?

Thanks!

Fast shutter speeds to freeze the action (golf swings are pretty fast)? (Or slow to get the full swing effect?)

I’d also say a fairly wide lens : golf shots you’d probably want full-body.

See if you can get looks of concentration as people line up for putting on the green?

Thanks! I plan on using my wide angle and can change to my longer lens once all required shots are done. Love the concentration expressions….

Do what I do… go into anything with fear and panic, then be surprised at how easily you survived it :D

You’ll get a feel for the light and shutterspeed pretty quickly… if the light is consistent, it’ll be a breeze

3 hours doesn’t sound like much… is that individual shots of everyone? If it is, you might be best to do all the shots in one spot. Find a nice spot with an uncluttered, and get everyone to do a practice swing with a driver or an iron… facing slightly different directions each time will help make it look like it’s different holes for each shot. You don’t want to go charging around the entire course chasing teams, so get the shots you need first, then look for some candids or action scenes

Teams of 4 are okay, so you don’t need to go too wide angle for the team shots. It’s golf, so they’ll all stand together and look nerdy very naturally

If you are going to get all of that done in the time you have, you might have to be a bit pushy. I struggle with butting my way in and getting shots done, so I can’t really help there

ha thanks adrian! well fingers crossed i have a good day. I have quoted on 3 hours with additional hourly rate is necessary. I’ll be able to use the golf buggy (arhh fun – hope i get a driver) yeah the nerdy shots..hahhaha I’ll coordinate what i require with the organiser and call teh golf course for suggestions especially for a vantage point for the 72 people group shot. I’m looking forward to it actually.

I do the corporate golf day once a year. I decided to plant myself on hole 1 and i get them to pose before they T off which has the clubhouse in the background, then a group shot of the usually four players in the group, then leave them alone to have their shot. It was ambrose format so they all started shotgun format from different holes and eventually all came past my position.
I found that when they are concentrating on T off you get all sorts of weird faces and weird angles. We then do a wrap around display card with the individual and group photo as a memento and send out to them a week or so after the event. Last year we had another photographer taking action shots around the course and this complimented the posed shots quite well. You would need another person for this because as Adrian says, you will not get everyone if you walk around chasing them. Depends if you want full action or just a record of them being at the event. Our event was from 7.45am until 1pm and over 80 individuals! This year we have two roaming and one shooting the individuals/groups.
