This was my first real celebrity portrait session back in 1991. Rik was appearing in ‘Waiting for Godot’ in the Queens West End Theatre. Two weeks later I was invited back to photograph the rest of the cast.
Rik Mayall was our generation’s answer to John Cleese. At school we would all do Young Ones impersonations – but almost everyone (except Phillip Hardy) wanted to be Rik Mayall. Later, in ’91 he allowed me to stage two portrait sessions and started my career in Comedy Photography. I am eternally grateful for that and will miss him dearly.

Sorry for late reply, thanks for your enthusiastic comment on my Rik Mayall picture. I’ve also worked with Stephen Fry. I might be working for Bones very soon.

beautiful liquid eyes, the expression seems to be so unveiled.
