My life is an epic story,
There are so many details, but I choose which ones to keep inside,
You only see what I want you to see like a magazine cover,
I am playing you for a fool,
I never show my emotions that are bitter and cruel,
I won’t laugh at you when you fall for this black whole of lies,
Spontaneous internal combustion,
this pain it’s killing me,
But do I crave the sadness, is that why I write this to get some sympathy?
Am I just a slug, who can’t resist the cup of beer?
I can’t lay off of these emotions yet nobody picks them out,
I am playing you like Marlboro, their cigarettes will make you sick and sometimes the truth makes me click off the news,
Like a prick from a rusty old nail, the commercials on TV draw us in like this fresh cut draws in bacteria,
The products are multiplied and we are manipulated just like we as a people change the truth,
I’m not lying; I’m just tantalizing you with pieces of information and pieces of opinion,
You see a heroic happy person, who could never harm or hurt,
These are the details I choose to show,
What a movie I’m putting on,
Oh my singing voice is sweet and sensual,
The words will cut through your brain and you are mine,
Loud like a laundry machine or soft like soap on my skin,
Perhaps you want to borrow some of that soft-soap,
Wash your eyes and ears out,
Maybe then the truth you could see,
If you ever find out the truth that I’m not perfect, would I change?
Like the change in your pocket, you wouldn’t want me, you want paper money,
Spend it on my book when it comes out and on the cover, 25% free like the jumbo size Twizzler package and you are mine, my words will wander through your brain for eternity.
This poem has an interesting concept. It’s written about our society in which we are fed lies a lot of the time but we don’t see them. It also has some introspect on how I was feeling at the time about life in general.
