Lightning Bolts Striking Behind Tree by

Time exposure of lightning bolts striking behind a tree, captured with a Canon 5D – Mark II

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” – Psalm 19:1 (NIV)

It has been a few years since I tried taking photos during a thunder storm. Last time around I was shook up by a lightning bolt that struck too close for comfort. This time around the storm was far enough in the distance for safety, yet close enough for photos.

The trick with lightning is to keep your shutter open until the lightning strikes. I was fortunate to capture this strike directly behind my favorite tree on Peace Road near Leola, PA.

(Canon 5D – Mark II, ISO 400, F 6.3, 7 seconds, 100.00 mm, cropped in Photoshop Elements)

Outstanding Mark!!!!! I want more lightning shots!

I guess I was in bed when the lightning storm rolled through here Friday am…. I heard I missed a great show!

  • Thanks Lori! There was a second storm Friday night between 10 – 11 PM. I was really tired but decided to go out anyway. It turned out to be much better than I expected.
