A Soldier's Solace by Mark Van Scyoc
Clear

A soldier from the Historical 28th North Carolina Troops – Companies I & F tying a small bundle of tattered books together with twine. It almost moved me to tears as he told me one of them was his bible. The bible was a soldiers solace. (Solace – a relief from emotional distress; comfort at a time of sadness, grief or disappointment. – Encarta World English Dictionary)

Joined fellow Red Bubblers at the crack of dawn for a group photo shoot at the park in Gettysburg, PA. As we drove through the park we came upon a group of re-enactors from North Carolina. They welcomed us into their camp and told us about live on the battle field.

I believe we are created in the image of the creator, and that as we express ourselves creatively we reflect a bit of God’s nature.

I relate to soldiers in Afghanistan, it is painfully touchy.

  • It sad to think of the hardships they endure day in and day out.
