Iconic photo of three rusty spikes lying on a wooden beam.

This image is symbolic of the three spikes that were used to nail Jesus to a cross of wooden beams. Crucifixion was a cruel and violent form of punishment reserved for the worst criminals in the Roman Empire. Jesus took our punishment upon himself to draw us back to God.

I believe we are created in the image of the creator, and that as we express ourselves creatively we reflect a bit of God’s nature.

Nicely presented Mark, good symbolism. Jesus suffered so we wouldn’t have to. Thanks for sharing.

What a terrific image. So simple and meaningful at the same time. We all try to have a complecated elegant image, but this shot brings it all home!!!

  • Thanks, I was hiking along some railroad tracks and noticed an occasional discarded spike. I remembered the words to an old song, “Three nails, three days, one way to God…” That is when I thought it would be cool to get a photo with three spikes on a wooden beam.
