Something catches my eye and I photograph it, always with the intention of reworking it into something I can call my own. My thinking: It’s not what you look at that matters but what it is you see and how you see it. That’s what matters. That’s how the artist shines through.

I was going to say that this is so surreal and then Dali eyes glared at me. Superb how you have captured these advertisements and turned them into a unique piece of art. the way the sky of the right billboard gradually merges into the ‘real’ sky is a masterstroke. Great work Mark

  • Hi Paul, great to hear from you! Love what you have to say, you’re always so insightful. Like you prowl the country nights, so I prowl the city streets. It’s probably the hunter/killer instinct at work but w/out the killer part of it. Exciting right? Thanks my friend!

wow – this is an extrordinary image, so many moern ‘surreal’ things happening in the one space… amazing!

  • Hi Paul. I even added the yellow light coming up from the horizon as Dali did in his work just to inject that Dali-like aesthetic. In NY, it’s all about density. You have no choice about that. There are no vistas, no space to work with so it’s always about working with composition and light. Thanks for your insights!

I love this, it’s amazing work Mark!

  • Thanks so much Doug. The various elements in this crazy comp caught my eye as I looked up this street. I had to find the most interesting way to layer them by moving myself into different positions and changing focal length ’til I liked what I saw. I did many different takes on this. This take was my favorite. -Mark
