At Night East 79th Street

This is an ongoing experimental attempt to portray what only the camera can portray, namely the depiction of time lapse and movement. By adding various digital effects and thru digital repixelation, I can create a final image that is more enigmatic and more visually interesting then a standard photograph might be. ..super creative mark!

  • Mark Ross replied

Really glad you like it Paul! I don’t tend to show this more abstracted work on rb ‘cause I think it’s too far afield from what’s predominately being shown here in general. Just thought I’d post a little of it to test the water as it were. It hasn’t been very popular as I expected. Ah well.

I’m impressed with this sort of work, Mark. I’d love to see more…..Dabbled a bit myself, but not painting over as well….I do like the results you’re getting!

  • Mark Ross replied

Hi Mel. Not sure what you mean by this sort of work. Do you mean like blurred movement/time lapse or a painterly quality or even the abstraction aspect? I try and shoot differently each time I’m out there shooting. But I also try and approach each shot differently from within Photoshop so that all the different motion/blurr/abstraction/color stuff doesn’t get to look similar ‘cause that would be dull of me to do. If you’d like, take a look at my main art site and in particular at the “Crowds” gallery there. I show more of the experimental work on that site then here on rb.

Hi Mark, I’ve tried the blurred movement thing, in an attempt to get a painterly quality and abstract looking results :) I haven’t tried it with crowds though, and I haven’t tried to paint over them, so seeing these works are inspiring to me! I’ll check out your other site as well, thank you!!!

It is fantastic Mark. I think it not only has a painterly quality, but the fact that you can still tell what the subject matter is quite clearly is very well done indeed. Love the colour and squiggles….......

  • Mark Ross replied

Wow…Im so pleased you like it Linda! Thanks love. You make a great point about the not too abstract. That’s one of the hardest things to get right when you do this kinda work, to not get too abstract, to keep some good measure of realism. It’s all about technique and some luck too. That’s what I find. It’s very exciting when you pull it off and get something special because it’s such a unique kind of imagery. I love working this way!

Another fav. The colours are superb, :-)) Will have a look at your other site, you got me curious now _

  • Mark Ross replied

Very glad you like this Liv. The color part of it is the most joyful aspect for me. Sometimes strong, sometimes subtle but always so important. Color is instant and powerful emotion. So says everyone who works with it. I use color to restate the original photograph so that the final image becomes as much my own as I can make it. Boy, am I getting blabby. So sorry!
