What a sight! I asked him to pose for me and we negotiated his fee for doing so. I only wish I had begun with a closeup, I should have. Click once on image to enlarge.

Fantastic capture. Hard to see the scorpion, but the way the performer captivate the audience is well captured. A wonderful street scene to be shared with the Art of the Middle East group.

The scorpion’s clinging to his left (our right) nostril and it’s in shadow though it can be seen when the image is blown up. Thanks again Eyal for your insights. Glad you like.

i love love love this..its almost surreal, it reminds me of a cult mexican film called el topo. worth checking out..i love the pose of the boy with the red cardigan.. in the far left is that person trying to hide its face?

a photo full of character .. and i think you should hire me to carry your camera and tripod around

Morocco, like the Middle East in general is so remarkably enchanting and different in all its ways as to be from another time and place altogether. You see things, like this scene for instance, that key a visual memory from a classic book or a movie like Ali Babba and the Forty Thieves or Sinbad the Sailor or Arabian Nights. Everywhere you look you see sights that amaze. It’s a wonderful place to visit. All the more so if you’re a visual artist! Go sometime if you can. You’ll not regret it, I promise you! Thanks for your remarks and for your lovely words. I’m very pleased that you like this photo. BTW/ Do you think I would let someone else carry my bags for me? Uh uh!

so i took your advice, i’m heading to Morocco towards end of the month : ).. but if i come back without seeing a man with an owl, snake and a Scorpion.. i’ll be asking you for a refund : )) I’m so excited x

  • Mark Ross replied

You’re kidding! Are you really going to Morocco? I photographed this scene in the main souk or medina in Marrakech. The water sellers are amazing too! You’ll see them thruout Morocco. The snake charmers and the monkey keepers and this crazy guy are around but finding them is perhaps a little spottier. You’ll find lots of things to train your eye on, just be advised, people there consider the camera to be the “Evil Eye” so you’ll have to be discreet when shooting in the streets. In the medina or souks, you’ll have to pay to take people’s pictures so keep enough cash in your pocket for that. All said, have a wonderful wonderful time… oh what the hell… you will!! Post some stuff once you’re back, ok? I’m excited for you.
