I’ve one similar to this (albeit not as good) when I was in Paris, I think I was on top of the Arch d’Triumphe. I once had a teacher who told us to look up, but also as important is when you’re up, to look down.

  • Mark Ross replied

Hi Jo. Right you are! I think that as soon as you find a perspective that’s out of the ordinary (and that could be anything at all) and figure out how you can handle it to your and to it’s best advantage, you’re onto something good. Thanks for commenting.

Nice image, love the composition and point of view. Just as a point of discussion. How do you think it would look, without the top manhole cover. It’s such a strong picture element. And it’s so close to the edge that I think it might be a bit distracting. This is a great image just as it is a

  • Mark Ross replied

Thanks Dave. Good point you make! I know what you’re saying about the manhole cover and I agree with you but because I’m actually against pictorial perfection in what I do (it’s a principle of mine to even avoid attempting it), I usually let this sort of distraction remain, especially if it’s part and parcel of the sense of space I want to present. It’s probably just the nonconformist in me. I can’t do anything by the rules, LOL!
