Move With The Times
Terowie in S.A. is a victim of changing times. The railway left and the town died overnight. Circumstances and times change.

Nice image Mark. Like the use of foreground/background here! Its very surreal looking too.
Mark Hayward
Great piece of social documentary Mark..obviously a sad way to go for any town, and unfortunately the story is repeated throughout regional Australia. The blank faces of these shops have a real emptiness about them, but yes, they make for great photo/graphic subject matter. Very nice work.
markhiggins
Thanks guys. i have reduced the saturation a tad, just to add to the faded and
sad outlook:)

i love this for so many reasons – love the irony of the john howard stencil on this ghost-town of a place (which as you know i visited about 2 weeks ago!).
yup, fail move with the times at your own peril!
fine work mark : ) N
Marnie Kirkness
what a fine eye you have to see this and capture it with such a moment and comp.
Andrew Bosman
So very, very clever Mark in so many ways.
Craig Watson
Don’t forget to thank Mr Stobie for the pole, if you know what I mean, Mark!!! LOL
Very interesting shot… well titled with great foreground/background blend!
markhiggins
Thanks guys. Craig, yes the Stobie is
an interesting S.A. invention. I think they will still be around in a 1000 years they look
so strong!
Rosalie Dale IPA
Wow this sure is a doco shot – so much to say.
rochelle
I agree with all the above comments – well spotted and composed!
Bruce Watson
Good one Mark. The Howard stencil really is the icing on the cake. In mood, reminds me of a key tragic scene in the classic Bogdanovich movie ‘The Last Picture Show’ , where ‘progress’ figuratively and literally collides with community values.

This is such a great composition on so many levels. Love the subdued colour which adds to the desolation and the lone figure striding into the frame and the John Howard stencil finishes it off perfectly.
Nassima Rothacker
Wow, what an image! This will be a historical shot that will always draw you back into the decade Howard was leader. Love the slightly desaturated tones. Great work!
Paul Vanzella
super brilliant image – LOVE THIS!
Mark Richards
Well said Paul, my sentiments exactly!
wellman
you really know how to compose a shot – this is superb!
Dave Hiskey

jayview
great title for a great shot!
Simon Mears
brilliant work, reminds me of Wim Wenders series of photos ’ from the surface of the earth’ – this has something else though, the chap walking along the sidewalk gives it another context altogether.. a place hanging on, not quite gone.. love this
Mark Richards
great composition Mark, all round excellent!
athex
Great shot – love this

I have been giving people rather lengthy comments. But you have me lost for words. No joke. I love it. It’s superb. It’s going into the favs.
