One in a Million
A difficult dichotomy. This image is about the search and struggle for identity of the individual, and of the Chinese Nation as a whole. Having (relatively recently) opened their doors to the world, and seemingly having embraced western notions of capitalism and individualism in an attempt to ‘modernise’, still maintain a staunch communist political idealism, with demanding expectations placed upon those living under it’s rule.
One in a Million belongs to the following groups:

I like this shot. I probably would have opened up my aperture a bit just to blur the background a bit more. But that may not have been an option on the lens.
I like your work. I wish I had the money to travel right now.
Mark Hayward replied
Appreciate the feedback Zachary – your spot on, the lens was 18-135mm which max’s out at f5.6. Although I could have exaggerated the blur in p.s, I did want to have the background ‘throng’ clearly identifiable but not so much so that they fight for importance. Cheers mate.

a sombre examination of the chinese culture. the two red traffic lights looks like eyes staring at it’s people. the hope to move forward is captured in the blurred figure in olive green in the middle of the frame. he is in my opinion the ‘one in a million’ in this capture! amazing visual..
